The Original Pioneers of the London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) will present ‘TAKE ME BACK – a night to remember how it all began’ on Saturday 12 November, 2022 7pm at New Testament Assembly
Tooting (NTA), 7 Beechcroft Road, London SW17 7BU. The concert, hosted by Premier Gospel’s Ibe (Giant Killer), will feature special guests Emmanuel Smith, Becca Folkes alongside LCGC founders Bazil Meade MBE, Bishop John Francis, and the LCGC Pioneers Choir led by Lawrence Johnson.
In August 1982, four young choir leaders brought their choirs together to plan a one-off concert to celebrate positive youth in the midst of UK race riots and negative media reports about black youth. That concert in May 1983, started a movement called London Community Gospel Choir and forty years later, LCGC is still sharing its message of positivity across the world, challenging ideologies and transforming lives.
For the first time in forty years and to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations of LCGC, the original pioneers, the founders and the original members of LCGC are coming together to tell the story through their songs of how it all began and give you a taste of the sound that changed gospel music in the UK. LCGC Pioneers Choir will be joined by The Voice UK semi-finalist Emmanuel Smith and award-winning Becca Folkes, two young artists who have taken the music world by storm with the depth of their musical message and dynamic delivery.
A GOSPEL CHOIR MASTERCLASS will take place during the afternoon of the 12th Nov as part of the celebrations at NTA Tooting. This special Masterclass will be led by Bazil Meade MBE along with UK Gospel Giants, Bishop John Francis, Nicky Brown, Howard Francis, and Lawrence Johnson.
The Gospel Choir Masterclass is open to all, singers, choirs, musicians, and anyone who would love the opportunity to learn from some of the best names in UK Gospel. The informal interactive sessions will provide practical principles and tips for working together as a choir with an emphasis on the unique UK Gospel sound with blends and harmonies.
