UK-based gospel artist, worship leader and songwriter Yvonne E. recently released her new single, ‘No Other Name,’ a declarative worship and praise song centred on the authority in the name of Jesus.

The song was born from a deeply personal journey of healing and deliverance. In this interview, Yvonne speaks about the experiences that shaped the song, her approach to songwriting, more than a decade of serving as a worship leader, and how she balances music, ministry and family life.

Q1: ‘No Other Name’ was inspired by your personal experience of healing and deliverance. Can you tell us more about that season and how it led to the song?

I grew up as an only child with my mum. I never had the opportunity to live with my dad or build a relationship with him. Over the years, I found myself looking for companionship, love, fulfilment and a sense of belonging in the wrong places and through the wrong habits.

Even though I was saved and serving the Lord, I did not realise there were still areas within me that needed healing. I struggled with rejection, fear, resentment, feelings of unworthiness and negative thinking patterns. These things affected my personal relationships, ministry, working relationships and even my ability to keep a job. I often viewed things through the wrong lens.

In 2020, the Lord really got my attention. In some ways, the COVID period became a blessing in disguise because I had more time to confront what was happening within me. The Holy Spirit began to walk me through the Word on a deeper and more transformative level.

I am also grateful for my pastor, who supported me with counselling and consistent prayer. Day by day, I began to gain victory and walk in freedom. My marriage, which had almost broken down, was restored, and so were friendships that I had struggled to maintain.

After everything God had done, I could not help but write a song to mark the victory.

Q2: The song carries strong declarations about healing, freedom, broken chains and the authority in the name of Jesus. What does the name of Jesus mean to you personally?

Because of the struggles I experienced over the years, I carried spiritual and emotional wounds. At different points, I tried to escape through the wrong friendships and habits.

As I grew stronger in my faith, I became more aware of spiritual warfare and realised that some things cannot be overcome by willpower alone. There are battles that only respond to the name of Jesus.

My freedom from negative thinking and anger began when I called on the name of Jesus and started declaring the Word of God over my life. I declared that I had the mind of Christ and that my thoughts had to come into obedience to Him.

I have also experienced healing after declaring that by His stripes I am healed. Whenever I faced repeated cycles of defeat, I called on the name of Jesus to break them.

To me, the name of Jesus is the ultimate authority. It is the answer to everything. Jesus is the solid rock on which I stand. In Him, I live, move and have my being.

Q3: Can you walk us through your songwriting and music composition process? Do the melody and lyrics usually come together, or does one come before the other?

Every song comes differently, but they all lead back to Scripture.

Sometimes I wake up with a melody in my spirit, and I quickly record a voice note before I forget it. At other times, the song may come from a personal experience or an encounter, and once I connect that experience to Scripture, the melody begins to flow.

Q4: You have served as a worship leader for over a decade. How has that experience shaped the way you write songs and lead people in worship?

Sometimes the Lord allows me to experience something, overcome it or find a way through it, and then He leads me to Scriptures that explain or bring revelation to what I have experienced. That is often what I pour into my ministrations and songwriting.

Serving as a worship leader has also taught me that worship is not about performance. It is priesthood.

Over the years, it has kept me in a place of constant heart-checking and consecration. I want to make sure that whenever I minister or write a song, I am in tune with my Heavenly Father and doing His will.

From that place, I am able to communicate what I understand about the Father’s heart whenever I stand to minister or write. I believe this is why I am drawn to songs that equip people, stir up their faith and help them face and overcome difficult situations in the name of Jesus.

Q5: As a wife, mother, worship leader and songwriter, how are you able to balance these responsibilities while continuing to grow your ministry and make music?

Apart from the grace of God, I would say my husband has played a major role.

He has been extremely supportive and has never stopped me from doing what the Lord leads me to do. He stays with the children when I need to attend rehearsals, minister or go to events.

He is also an artist known as Real Zeal, and he helps me with music arrangements. Despite having his own work and responsibilities, he has remained a strong support system, and I am deeply grateful for him.

Q6: Following “I Will Not Fear,” “Living Testimony” and now ‘No Other Name,’ what can listeners expect from Yvonne E. next?

Listeners can expect more music created to equip believers.

I am also working on a praise party event in collaboration with people many will know and love. Praise played a major role in helping me overcome depression, so my next goal is to create an event that can help people come out of depression, despair and anxiety through praise.
