Preach Magazine explores the intersection of AI and Christian Ministry

Preach Magazine’s latest issue dives into the fascinating and complex world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on Christian ministry. As AI technology rapidly advances, this thought-provoking edition addresses both the opportunities and the challenges AI presents to churches, ministers, and the wider Christian community.

From sermon support tools to AI-generated podcasts, this issue sheds light on the many ways AI is already being used in ministry. Chris Goswami, a founding member of the AI Christian Partnership (AICP), explores how AI can be leveraged for tasks such as sermon generation, summarising church communications, and even assisting in youth ministry. However, he also highlights the risks and ethical dilemmas AI poses, from misinformation to dehumanising interactions in ministry.

‘The church has always adapted to new technology, albeit sometimes reluctantly, and we will do so again,’ says Goswami in his article, which anchors the issue. He reminds readers that while AI offers incredible potential, its use in ministry must be guided by human empathy, spiritual insight and Christian values. ‘AI should serve as a tool enhancing our ministry, but not replacing human empathy and spiritual insight.’

The new issue also includes practical advice for churches and ministries on how to navigate this evolving landscape. Articles explore AI’s role in sermon creation, church workflows, and youth ministry, offering insight into how AI can be both a blessing and a challenge. Additionally, the magazine cautions against over-reliance on AI, advocating for a balanced approach where humans remain at the helm.

Notably, the issue addresses pressing questions such as whether there are areas of AI that Christians should avoid and how to cultivate AI literacy among church leaders. A guide to the best AI tools for ministry is also featured, providing practical steps for integrating AI in a way that aligns with Christian values.

Ian Buchanan CEO of Preach Magazine says, ‘My youngest son heard that I was about to preach on a passage from 2 Timothy so he suggested seeing what ChatGPT would give us if we asked for a sermon on the passage. In less than a minute it spat out a manuscript. The text was flowery or ‘stain-glass-holy language,’ as my son called it, but my concern was the ease of access and theologically sound views expressed. In the latest issue of Preach (AI and the Church) this kind of challenge is analysed with some very sound warnings offered to local church Bible-teachers. May the Lord give us the wisdom we need when handling this powerful tool in our toolbox.’

The new issue of Preach Magazine is available now, offering valuable insights for church leaders, preachers, and congregations on how to thoughtfully engage with AI while staying grounded in faith.
