Following the release of Magnificent, her collaborative album with Israel Houghton, Philippa Hanna has now released the live video for ‘The Name / Alpha and Omega’.
The songs on the album were performed live, so the video now gives listeners the chance to connect what they heard on the album with the full visual performance.
One thing that stands out about this song is that Philippa sings it as a solo. However, the instrumental arrangement is also a major part of how the song is carried.
The performance opens with a long orchestral introduction before Philippa begins to sing. From there, the instruments move with every rise and fall of the song, helping to build the different moments and giving the performance its depth.
‘The Name’ speaks about the power and authority found in the name of Jesus before moving into the popular worship song, ‘Alpha and Omega’, widely known through Israel Houghton and New Breed.
That part of the song also makes the collaboration with Israel Houghton feel even more connected. Philippa brings her own expression to the familiar chorus, singing it over a different chord progression while still keeping the heart of the song.
It is a beautiful solo performance, but the orchestral arrangement plays an important role from the opening until the final note.
