University Gospel Choir of the Year returns for it’s 9th annual competition

The award-winning University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) finals is back for its 9th annual show this April! Taking place at Oasis House in Croydon on Saturday 6th April 2019, the “Sister Act 2-esque” event for the whole family and music lovers will have you up on your feet and singing your way out of the venue! Our resident host Rachel Kerr (MOBO award winner) will also be back to host the show. UGCY promises to be jam packed, melody-filled and guaranteed to leave you uplifted and inspired.

University choirs from across the country have submitted their entries and the judges, after much deliberation, have selected the top 8 university Gospel choirs to battle it out in the hopes of taking home the prestigious UGCY 2019 title.

Our judges who will preside over who is crowned UGCY 2019 are:

  • ITV’s the Voice 2019 contestant – Emmanuel Smith
  • The Royal Wedding Choir – Kingdom Choir’s Founder and Leader – Karen Gibson
  • Creative/Music Director – Ayo ‘Ace’ Oyerinde.

This year’s show carries a new twist, an international flavour embodied by the theme: Preaching to The Nations, where each of this year’s finalists will be required to sing in a different language for a section of their performance set. Be ready to hear diverse dialects, languages and tonalities on what will be a colourful evening and an unforgettable experience for all.
