Welcome to Part 2 of Styling Yourself as a Christian Artist. If you have not read Part 1 yet, it is worth going back to start there first, as it lays the foundation for this conversation and gives fuller context to what we are building on here. You can check it out HERE
Now, let’s continue.
COMMON STYLING MISTAKES TO AVOID
Don’t Copy Someone Else’s Style
Take inspiration, yes, but avoid copying. Your image should reflect you, not someone else.
There may be nothing completely new in fashion, but the way you combine ideas should be personal. Authenticity strengthens your message and protects your brand identity.
Avoid Overtly Seasonal Looks
For general photoshoots and promotional materials, avoid styling that feels strongly summer or winter. Seasonal looks can limit how and when your images can be used.
Neutral styling gives you flexibility and wider usability unless you are intentionally creating seasonal content.
Don’t Overcomplicate
If you’re still developing your style, keep things simple.
Choose strong shapes.
Stick to colours you feel confident in.
Avoid combinations you’re unsure about.
Overcomplicated outfits can look awkward or distracting. When in doubt, think strong and simple.
But Don’t Play It Too Safe
Simple doesn’t mean bland.
Whether through bold prints, block colours, dramatic shapes, vintage touches or standout accessories, always aim to make a statement.
Don’t blend in. Stand out.
Final Thoughts: Confidence Comes from Within
I’ve loved fashion my whole life and worked in the industry for 15 years. This guide is your foundation, your starting point.
Advanced styling takes more finesse and attention to detail. Maybe that’s for another time.
For now, be brave. Walk tall. Wear your faith with confidence.
Remember, be bold, be strong, for the Lord your God is with you. And never forget, it’s what’s on the inside that truly counts.
