DESOLA talks musical journey as she celebrates 10th-year milestone

We grabbed a few minutes with Desola, following up on her recent music video release Lily of the Valley. The multi-award-winning London-based singer-songwriter delivered a beautiful and unique RnB Soul sound, with lyrics reminding us about the love of God and how it changes and transforms from ashes to beauty. Check out our interview with her below:

What has been one of your proudest moments in your journey so far?
I have had great moments to be honest, since I began my journey in November 2014. Two main points were my headline concert at the Vortex Jazz Cafe in April 2019 – sold out – mainstream stage and my second album concert in Dec 2018. They both topped it at this stage but I know, there is MORE to come.

If music didn’t exist, what would you do?
If music did not exist, I am sure I would be in politics, fighting for democracy, social justice and inclusion of the segregated communities. I would also be in business creating strategic solutions for the world. I would also be in Art and Fashion. I love fashion.

What is the inspiration for this project?
‘Lily of the Valley’ is inspired by the mind-blowing love of God for us by giving us Jesus Christ, that in His name, we can face any situation and also have sufficiency in all things through him – John 3:16 . He loves so much we can tell him anything, ask anything and trust him in all things and ways!

What would you say are some of the main messages in the project?
I have had so much great feedback since the release and I will say some of the most consistent feedback since I have been singing professionally 10 years ago. Feedback such as “wonderful song”, “soul lifting and soothing”, “beautiful song” etc. People also love the production, instrumentation, and the dynamics of the song as a whole.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Keep being authentic. Keep moving forward.

What are your future plans?
I am excited about the future. It feels like I am moving so closely in my stride and calling. My creative knowledge is also growing and this is actually my 10th year in music ministry and on stage. What a milestone. I am grateful to Jehovah God. I have seen many blessings from him. I will be celebrating this in a big way. There is also more music to come!
