Four months ago, on March 6th 2026, the Official UK Christian and Gospel Singles Chart was launched in partnership with AStepFWD, and what a journey it has been already.
What started as a new chart has quickly become one of the biggest highlights of 2026 so far for UK Christian and Gospel music. In just four months, we have seen six different chart toppers, JERUB, Thiago and DC3, Chantelle Rutendo, Imrhan and LeoStayTrill, GUVNA B and MIN.ADEOLUWA, with more than 50 songs appearing across the Top 20.
JERUB made history as the first artist to reach No.1 on the chart with “Kumbaya”. That first week was already special, but the song did not stop there. It went on to spend 10 weeks at No.1, giving the chart a strong beginning and setting the tone for what was to come. Official Charts also confirmed JERUB as the first ever No.1 on the brand-new chart.
Another beautiful moment so far is Chantelle Rutendo becoming the only female artist to have reached No.1 on the chart. That is worth celebrating, but it also reminds us that there is still room for more female Christian and Gospel artists to rise, break through and take that top spot.
Even from the launch, the chart was already making noise beyond the Christian and Gospel music community. BBC Newsbeat covered the news, and artists were able to speak about what this moment meant. Laura Ehio shared that her journey as a Christian is the only thing she could ever write about, while Chantelle Rutendo spoke about the importance of Christian artists having a platform beyond the four walls of the church.
ITV also picked up the story around the launch, showing that this was not just another announcement within the scene. It was a moment people were paying attention to.
As we celebrate four months of this remarkable partnership between Official Charts and AStepFWD, there are a few things worth reminding people about.
One of the things that makes the chart different is the 13-week rule. A song can only stay on the chart for a maximum of 13 weeks. This helps to keep the chart fresh, creates movement, and gives other songs the chance to breathe, grow and be discovered.
The Top 20 is based on official data, including streams and sales. That means every stream, every download and every support from listeners can play a part in how songs move each week. Official Charts describes it as ranking the UK’s biggest new Christian and Gospel single releases by British artists, based on UK audio and video streams, downloads, CDs and vinyl, with all songs on the chart under 12 months old.
The chart is also mainly focused on British Christian and Gospel artists, giving homegrown talent a platform that reflects what is happening in the UK. From worship to gospel, afro-gospel, rap, CCM and other sounds, the chart continues to show that UK Christian and Gospel music is not one sound. There is depth, there is variety, and there is so much happening.
