To celebrate Black History Month, UK Gospel acts (Rachel Kerr, Guvna B, CalledOut Music, The Kingdom Choir and The Spirituals) were called upon to grace the Apple Music Home Sessions. This has been an unprecedented move by the streaming giant who have followed on from Platoon’s Gospel Heritage compilation last month to shed more light on a genre glistening with talent.
Today, we take a look at CalledOut Music’s session for Apple Music. The singer-songwriter recorded re-imagined versions of his ‘My Prayer’ hit, and well-loved anthems ‘Blinded by Your Grace’ (Stormzy), ‘Walk With Me’ (ft. Samm Henshaw).
CalledOut said, “The songs are special to me because they’ve each played a role in my artistry and in my development over the years. I love ‘My Prayer’ because it’s one of the biggest songs I have ever released and it was the song that marked a new beginning for me in 2017 when I was just discovering myself.
He continued, “I am hugely inspired by Stormzy’s ‘Blinded by Your Grace’ it is an ode to the culture and Sound of the UK gospel scene and finally, ‘Walk With Me’ off my latest album was necessary to do because I wanted to write a song that talks about the beauty of doing life with God & the people around us, especially in this season I feel it is extremely relevant for us to have a community of people who love us and do life with us.”
