Seasoned singer-songwriter and producer Tom Read displays songwriting at its best with ‘Dead Things To Life’. With lyrics well within what I believe is the general theme of his new album, “Lament”, ‘Dead Things To Life’ in one line, is a prayer of surrender and for strength through the storms and darkest moments of life.
Despite the track being apparently lyric-driven, you can’t help but notice the almost flawless vocals delivering the song. I’m talking strong but soothing, seasoned vocals, perfectly designed to suit a song of this nature.
The accompanying video to the track, directed by Pedestrian Media shows Read as an artist obviously not afraid to push boundaries and one who thinks outside the box whilst keeping things simple.
Born and raised in Hong Kong but now residing in Oxford, England, this is certainly not Tom’s first rodeo. Along with writing and collaborating with several artists both home-grown and in Asia, he has been performing and releasing his own material for quite a while. His 2013 solo album, “Compass” reached number 1 on the iTunes chart in Hong Kong and top 100 in the UK and US charts. Still in 2013, his song ‘From Ashes To Beauty’ was cut by multi-platinum selling Asian pop star, Sammi Cheng, on her album, “Love is Love”.
In 2016, his CHARIOTS EP was nominated for ‘Best Album / EP of the Year’ at the Unsigned Music Awards 2016, selected out of over 3000 entries by a panel of 80 music industry experts.
