UK-based gospel singer, songwriter and worship leader Glorie Nweze has released her debut single, “EL ROI,” a heartfelt song centred on faith, hope and the reminder that, no matter what we may be going through, God sees us. The brand new single is out now.
“EL ROI” is inspired by one of the names of God found in Scripture: El Roi, meaning “The God Who Sees Me” (Genesis 16:13).
The song was written from a place of recognising that life can sometimes leave us feeling unseen, unheard or forgotten. There are seasons where we may be carrying things that nobody else knows about — silent struggles, unanswered prayers, disappointment, uncertainty or simply trying to keep going when we feel like we have nothing left.
“EL ROI” is a reminder that God sees all of it.
He sees the things we don’t always have the words to explain. He sees the tears we cry when nobody is around. He hears the prayers we struggle to put into words, and He remains present even when we don’t always feel Him.
The heart behind the song comes from the story of Hagar in Genesis 16. Alone in the wilderness and facing an incredibly difficult situation, Hagar encountered God and called Him El Roi, the God who sees me.
That moment is what makes the name so powerful. Hagar wasn’t in a perfect or comfortable place when she encountered God. She was in the wilderness. Yet even there, God saw her.
“EL ROI” carries that same message for anyone who may currently feel like they are in their own wilderness season.
Whether it is grief, disappointment, loneliness, uncertainty, fear or simply the weight of everyday life, the song encourages listeners to look beyond what they are facing and remember who God is in the middle of it all.
He is our comfort.
