With Valentine’s Day coming up tomorrow, every shop seems to be filled with roses and chocolates and teddy bears holding love hearts. As someone who is single, and never been in a proper relationship, it can feel disheartening not to experience the affection this day should bring. But the love of God is more than enough for us, and will sustain us whether in a relationship or single.
As we approach Valentine’s Day, the single person may feel tempted to bemoan the lack of intimacy with another.
But reflecting on the kind of love that God has for us can help ease the disappointment we may feel at our singleness:
- 1. The love of God far exceeds that of any human (see Ephesians 3:18-19).
- 2. Because God loves us, he promises to fulfil all our needs (see Philippians 4:19).
- 3. If he hasn’t fulfilled what we believe are “needs” right now, he will provide comfort in the waiting (see 2 Corinthians 1:3–4).
- 4. We can still live full, joyful lives in him (see Psalms 16:11).
Therefore, this Valentine’s Day, if you are single and are feeling a lack of love, take this opportunity to lean into the love of God which will never fail you.
