SPACNation Church singer Armstrong Martins is on track for X Factor success

Armstrong Martins has quickly become a favourite with X Factor judges and viewers alike and Louis Tomlinson is hoping for some big performances during the live shows. From heartfelt Disney covers to singing the tune to Friends, Armstrong has stayed away from ‘traditional’ choices at the audition stage.

Armstrong Martins is a 23-year-old singer who left his childhood home at the age of 13 and was brought up since then by his SPACnation church pastor, Tobi Adegboyega. Armstrong works as a youth worker and still sings in church but is hoping that X Factor will propel him up the pop charts.

Armstrong is already steeped in live show experience after reaching the live rounds of The Voice. Eagle-eyed viewers can be forgiven for not recognising him though, as this singing success was on the Nigerian version of the show, with Armstrong being mentored by the country’s star singer, Timi Dakolo. Despite having some success singing in talent shows, he has said that the ‘greatest day of his life’ was when he got time to chill with Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland.

He started by making High School Musical sound cool again, during his first audition and then bashed out Friends theme tune ‘I’ll Be There For You’ by The Rembrandts, while at Judge’s Houses.

The gamble worked as Louis Tomlinson chose him to be one of his Boys for live shows. Speaking about his decision, Louis told Armstrong: “What you’ve just done should make you really really proud. Your song choice was clever. I think you’ve got a fantastic voice, you get so lost within the moment of the song.”

Armstrong has also appeared in music videos for his church group SPACnation. Many have no doubt that he could go a long way in the process with many tipping him to be there at the end.
