Croydon rapper, Mr Ekow releases his 4th EP “Between Haircuts”. In a world obsessed with finding the perfect angle for a selfie, this EP pushes aside the facades and explores the nitty gritty in between. The EP paints an honest, personal picture of trying to maintain faith in a broken world and looking for light in the darkness.
No subject is left untouched as Mr Ekow tackles themes such as doubt, lust, escapism, corruption and more. Commenting on the vulnerability of the project the artist explains, “These are things most people deal with, but often the implications are downplayed in favour of forcing out a smile. I wanted to create an open conversation with how we can best overcome our issues, but without a holier-than-thou attitude. The best way to do that was to be honest and share my own experience. Truthfully a quick fix is difficult to find, but I hope the EP as a whole will show a journey of faith and help inspire others to continue theirs.”
Combine an endless imagination with down-to-earth sensibilities and you’ve got Mr Ekow. Taking inspiration from God, people watching and everything in-between, he weaves together the everyday and the fantastical in gripping rhymes. Growing up in Croydon as a 90s baby, he was strongly influenced by the tail end of Golden Era Hip Hop and the ascent of UK grime and rap. The end result is a versatile, jazzy and lyrically sharp rapper who loves to get a crowd vibing.
The 6-track EP boasts production and features from TheUnsung, Prospect, Ruth-Ellen, Myles The Rhetorical, Taiko, Titi The Writer and Ebonie G. Each collaborator was carefully chosen to help bring the project to life and join the vision for a world where people live authentically, whilst striving to be the best they can be.
