Long lost words to Big Ben chimes rediscovered and re-recorded

Worship leaders Tim Hughes, Lurine Cato MBE, Junior Garr, Faith Child and many others from around the United Kingdom (and beyond) have collaborated on a new song, written, using the little known words to the melody of the chimes of Big Ben bell in the centre of London.

Song writer Chip Kendall who wrote ‘All Through This Hour (Jesus Reigns)’, says: “Many people don’t know, but the melody of Big Ben’s chimes actually has words that go along with them based on Psalm 37. It’s a prayer! There’s a painted plaque inside the clock tower confirming the words and the melody’s origin from Handel’s ‘Messiah’. We think it is significant that they sound out this prayer over our nation every hour of every day.”

The Big Ben plaque reads:

Words and Music of the chimes
All through this hour
Lord, be my Guide
That by Thy power
No foot shall slide

Music from Handel’s Messiah

All Through This Hour is now a growing movement of people who believe this prayer and the restoration of Big Ben in 2022 are of spiritual significance for our nation in these turbulent and pivotal times. The song serves as a call for the Church to join as one in worship and praying this prophetic song. Believing that as Big Ben has had its voice restored, so the Church will speak out for justice, truth and salvation.

Prayer and worship has been taking place in Westminster and other key locations around the capital with the next gathering planned for 24th August, Parliament Square, London from 12-3pm.
