UK singer-songwriter JERUB has made history as his single ‘Kumbaya’ becomes the first ever No.1 on the Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart, launched by the Official Charts Company.

The chart tracks the most popular Christian and Gospel songs in the UK based on official streams and sales. The introduction of the chart marks an important step in recognising the growing impact of faith-based music in the UK.

The chart was developed in collaboration with AStepFWD, a pioneering UK-based Christian media and creative organisation committed to amplifying faith-driven voices across music, arts and culture. The initiative was created to highlight the modern homegrown faces of Christian and Gospel music while also spotlighting some of the genre’s newest releases.

‘Kumbaya’ leads the chart’s very first week, placing JERUB at the centre of a historic moment for the genre. The song is reflective and heartfelt, carried by his soulful vocal delivery and honest songwriting.

The title draws from the historic spiritual phrase meaning “come by here,” traditionally sung as a prayer asking for God’s presence in difficult moments. JERUB’s version carries that same spirit, offering a modern expression of faith, vulnerability and hope.

With the launch of the Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart and ‘Kumbaya’ taking the first No.1 spot, it reflects a growing recognition of Christian and Gospel music within the wider UK music landscape and highlights the artists and platforms helping push the culture forward.
