Introducing… Uromi with debut EP “Father Reach Down To Me” out 1st Oct.

In 2012 Uromi started performing Spoken Word Poetry under the name “Afr0naut” in the Birmingham scene, and very soon after started sessioning as a guitarist for various Birmingham-based artists including Namywa, Elektric and Jaydonclover. He founded a band- Dimensions – in 2013 before leaving the band to commence his undergrad degree in Law from 2013-2017 at Keele. During this time, he met Dan Devoted and, together they began playing around with the musical ideas that are at the foundation of their styles today.

Uromi released ‘Settle Down’ in May 2020, having written, produced and recorded the song from his bedroom the week before his 25th birthday. A song about finding confidence and doing what you need to do, ‘Settle Down’ is a perfect example of how Uromi can communicate what he calls “diary thoughts” in a relatable and accessible manner. ‘Settle Down’ has attained ~1000 plays across major streaming platforms and independent radio play.

His next release, debut EP “FRDM”, was created in response to current global affairs, specifically, the Black Lives Matter movement. “I noticed that all of these songs were coming out of the same mood, and I had to put them together”. The first song on the EP, ‘Not a Game’, was actually written in 2014 following the killing of Eric Garner. “I never thought it would still be relevant 6 years after writing it, but it is and I hope it won’t be relevant in another 6 years”. The rest of the EP is packed with features from friends, namely Michael Personne, Mica Montana and Dan Devoted. It will be available on 1 October 2020, Nigeria’s Independence Day and the first day of Black History Month in the UK.
