Doing God’s work full-time doesn’t always mean full-time pay

When we talk about full-time jobs, the reward you get every month or every week from that job is normally a monetary gain in your bank account. God’s work, however, in some communities, not all, doesn’t have a monetary value attached to it, so it doesn’t produce the same benefit.

This can make it hard for those trying to go into full time ‘Only for God’ work type lifestyles.

A lot of us are blessed with so many gifts and talents, however, it can feel like those gifts and talents do not equate to the monetary value we think they hold on this earth.

We all have gifts and talents that are transferrable, which can be used in various capacities in this world. When I mention gifts and talents, we aren’t just talking about Musicians, Artists, DJs, we are also talking about those people who remember information once told and can implement a plan based on that information or someone who can interpret how people feel, empathize and give them wise advice to help them in their life.

Your plethora of gifts and talents might be wide-ranging but have you ever been in a position where you say to God, “I want to use my gifts and talents for your glory, for the kingdom, for the church etc.” Imagine if you then take that leap of faith, step out of your comfort zone and safety net to then go into full-time ministry in whatever capacity that is. Then you see the budget people have for your gift and talent within the churches and you might think “Wow, is this what it is? How do you expect me to complete the task required to a high level with this little budget?”

But you continue to trust God. You also see your bank account not looking healthy and now you see your gift and talent with all the submission to God, does not immediately equate to what we feel as enough money needed to live. And God’s intentions is never to put us under, never to have us lacking in any way, shape or form.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11

To be honest, it can be one of the hardest things to come to terms with in life. The fact that you are fully submitting to God and what he has in store for you, no longer relying on what you can bring to the table, but now relying on the doors that God opens. God won’t tell you to quit your job if he doesn’t have something in store for you.

Equally, God can urge you to get a job, despite what you think your gifts and talents are, for you to learn and build knowledge and sometimes finances for the next stage of your life.

I say all of this to say, we must continue to seek God in every situation. It is always better to seek God and his wisdom whilst you are doing all you can, rather than doing all you can without him and then saying ‘Hey God, your turn now’.

Don’t be discouraged in this time of transition and building. Understand God will never let you fall as long as you continue to love, keep the faith in him and submit to him.

Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Just because your bank account doesn’t reflect the works you are doing, doesn’t mean God doesn’t love you or have a plan for your life. Keep the faith!
