“Five key things” to know about the Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart

As we get closer to the launch of the Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart, it’s clear this is something many people in the space have been waiting for. It marks a real shift in how Christian and Gospel music is recognised and understood within the UK music landscape. Here are five key things to know.

1. A FIRST FOR THE UK

This is the first official singles chart in the UK dedicated entirely to Christian and Gospel music. For years, artists have been releasing music, building followings, and shaping culture without an official national chart that reflects that work. This changes that and gives the genre a clear place within the UK’s official chart system.

2. THE ROLE ASTEPFWD PLAYS

AStepFWD is championing this initiative alongside the Official Charts Company.

For more than ten years, AStepFWD has been tracking and organising Christian and Gospel music in the UK through the UK Christian Charts. That includes building a growing database of artists and releases, grouping music across gospel and Christian sub-genres, and paying attention to which songs are gaining attention within the UK faith music scene.

That legacy is now what birthed the partnership with the Official Charts, feeding into the Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart in the form of a partnership, with AStepFWD having overseen UK Christian Charts on a national level for more than a decade. The information AStepFWD has gathered over the years will form the basis of the Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart.

AStepFWD will be supplying the data to the Official Charts system, from which the Top 20 songs will be selected and charted each week.

If your artist profile is not registered with AStepFWD, your music may not appear on the Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart, regardless of how strong the release is elsewhere.

3. A WEEKLY TOP 20

Each week, the Official Charts in partnership with AStepFWD will publish a Top 20, offering a simple snapshot of which Christian and Gospel songs are connecting most with listeners across the UK. It gives artists and listeners a shared reference point that reflects real engagement and ongoing support.

4. A WIDE RANGE OF SOUNDS

The Official UK Christian & Gospel Singles Chart covers the full range of Christian and Gospel music. Worship, contemporary gospel, Afro gospel, rap, and other musical sub-genres are all part of it. It will reflect how broad and creative the UK scene already is.

5. WHAT THIS REALLY MEANS

This is not just about numbers or positions. It brings structure and visibility to a genre that has often worked outside the usual industry systems. It helps tell the story of Christian and Gospel music in the UK in a clearer, more connected way.

This launch marks an important moment for the UK Christian and Gospel music community, strengthening a long-standing commitment to recognising the music being made through the UK Christian Charts.
