#EndSARS: Young CHH & Afro-gospel artistes lead ‘prayer walk’ in Nigeria

On Sunday 11 October, some urban Christian musicians led about six hundred Nigerian youth on what they call a ‘prayer walk’ against police brutality in the country; especially from a special unit of the Nigerian police force called the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS).

For so many years, this unit of the police that was set up to handle robbery, car-snatching, kidnapping and other related cases had taken to extorting, killing, raping and brutalising innocent people who dress well, have dreadlocks, or use expensive gadgets; profiling them as internet fraudsters. As a response to this menace, Nigerians have been going on countless numbers of protests against the police force and the government.

In the same expression of having-it-to-the-neck, gospel singers Jo Deep, Limoblaze, Gaise Baba, A Mose, Angeloh, Protek, Kelarthrillz – alongside other Christian creatives including John Koch, Oluwadabest, Leyonne and Tola Omoniyi – called out young Christians to a park in Lagos and prayed for a better Nigeria.

When asked why, John Koch had tweeted:

“They said the church ain’t saying nothing about all that’s happening but guess what? We as the church are moving now and we are doing it how the church of Jesus Christ is meant to. Tomorrow we engage the spiritual dimension to this! We are not ignorant of the devil’s devices.”

“#Prayerwalk Lagos was a blessing and we know the heavens are already moving to our favor! I employ all my Christian brothers and sisters round the states of the federation to replicate this! This is a Spirit move!,” tweeted Limoblaze after the walk. A called which got answered by Abuja Christians as there will be prayer walk today in the city.

They called out on other Christians in other cities to join in the train and have their own prayer walks using #prayerwalk. With a generation that puts God first, there truly is hope for – even beyond a better Nigeria – a better world, starting today.

Wherever you are let us remember to #PrayForNigeria as its people work for change to come.
