Eddie Brett reimagines fan-favourite primetime TV track ‘Love Sick’

Eddie Brett announces the official release of ‘Love Sick’ – a fan-favourite track that captured the nation’s attention on primetime TV, only to be upstaged by Pudsey the Dog. Out October 3rd on all platforms.

From a Walthamstow bedroom to the O2 Arena, ‘Love Sick’ has lived many lives. Written in college and first performed at unsigned competitions, the track propelled Brett and his band Loveable Rogues to the final of Britain’s Got Talent in 2012. Following the show, the band enjoyed a period signed to Simon Cowell’s label, Syco. Through the layered process of production and decision-making, ‘Love Sick’, a track beloved at festivals and university gigs, never quite reached the form Eddie had imagined for it. When it was eventually released, the version that emerged felt overly polished, losing some of the raw energy that initially captured hearts.

Over a decade later, Eddie is reclaiming it: “This isn’t nostalgia – it’s closure. I have so much joy in my life now, following some real lows after the band ended. Releasing Love Sick has allowed me to reimagine it the way it was always meant to be heard, and to reach back to give younger me some of the hope and excitement I feel now for the future.”

This new take is a folk-pop reimagining that honours the original while presenting the version Eddie always envisioned. He’s refreshed the lyrics, trading fleeting laddish jokes for warmth, wit, and perspective. Completely self-produced and recorded, it represents Eddie today: storyteller, artist, uncle, and a man conscious of the words he puts into the world.

Eddie’s life has been anything but predictable. When Loveable Rogues split, he threw himself into an oddball list of detours: from dressing as a bagel, hamburger and Father Christmas, to blagging a Nando’s black card, to doing voiceovers for Burberry and timber merchants in Kent. He wandered, self-destructed, discovered faith, got sober, and eventually started writing again, rebuilding himself and his art on his own terms.

‘Love Sick’ isn’t just a throwback – it’s a celebration of what’s ahead. Eddie adds, “I miss people singing along, and it took some time to come to terms with losing half a million quid to a dog. But while I treasure the memories, I’m not chasing the past. I’m starting fresh – pretty much from scratch again – but the fact I’m even excited to do so really highlights how grateful I am to have landed here. I just want to be an old tattooed, bearded geezer with an acoustic guitar and some cool stories… that’s what I’m working towards.”

ABOUT EDDIE BRETT

Eddie Brett has lived a few musical lifetimes already. Catapulted into the spotlight in 2012 with band Loveable Rogues, he reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent before signing with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music. He co-wrote the UK Top 10 hit What a Night, played Wembley Stadium, supported Olly Murs and Scouting for Girls on arena tours, and shared stages with artists including Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.

But the ride came at a cost. When the band split, Brett spiralled, drifting between odd jobs, dabbling in theatre, stand-up, poetry, and voiceovers, but quietly unravelling. Sobriety and faith became his turning point. What followed was a rediscovery of songwriting, this time stripped of industry pressure and fuelled instead by honesty, humour and survival.

Today, Brett calls his sound “confessional melodic poetry”: folk-pop storytelling with grit, wit and unflinching honesty. His songs document the highs and lows of hard-fought healing – not just as catharsis, but as an invitation for others to find comfort, hope, and humour in life’s messiness.
