If you’re anything like me, you might find yourself looking at the comments before or whilst watching the YouTube video. I just knew that this topic was bound to rustle a few feathers. For many, this is a personal experience – something that they, or someone close to them has experienced. But regardless, as painful as it may be, the question still needs to be asked: did God really tell you that they are your husband/wife?
When it comes to dating, marriage and everything in between, the Christian world becomes very murky. There are many rules and guidelines to follow. So, as Joseph Solomon says, once you meet someone who happens to tick all the ‘boxes’, many people then assume that this person is now the one that God intends for them to marry. Their Christianity now makes them your soulmate.
But that’s the problem. Joseph’s argument wasn’t that God shouldn’t be involved in your decision about who it is that you marry, but your reasoning behind it shouldn’t be superficial, yet many times, it is. As one of his subscribers said in the comments “at least 15 groups of women were saying that [he] was their husband” at one of his tours. As funny as this comment is, the side effects of people believing this is why this video is important for you to watch.
Involving God in a decision that you have clearly made is what makes the Christian dating world so murky. It can be damaging to your relationship with God once you then come to realise that this person was in fact not the one.
You would never go to a job interview and tell the employer that you think that this is the job for you because God Himself told you so. You would fill in the application, take any necessary assessments, attend the interview and then wait. Even if you prayed and fasted, you would have faith that God would provide you with the right job. So why is it that we have a different view of God when it comes to relationships?
There were many interesting points made in this video and it really made me think about this issue even more.

Joseph Solomon will be coming to London in a few months time with the rest of the Poets in Autumn collective, so try to grab a ticket before they sell out. If you purchased a VIP ticket, don’t be like the girls in the comments section who thought that he was their husband.
