Latest submission to the UK Christian Chart May 2016 listing is the addictive ‘Troubles’ from Cardiff based Written In Kings.  The four piece band thrive off playing live and have a passion and belief in something greater than their music; a hunger and a vision to reach people all over the world. Driven by this hunger they’ve toured extensively… and even in front of a Rolling Stone. We get excited for especially artists new to us and after an engaging conversation with band member Nathan asked Written in Kings eight quick questions. Check out their responses below:
  1. Written In Kings is an interesting name, how did it come about?

We believe that we are made kings through Christ and we are written in to the story of the King of Kings.
  2. Tell us a little about how the band came together.

We started 5 years ago and have grown to become a 4 piece rock’n’roll band that are passionate about changing the environment wherever we are. We believe that we are called to bring hope and truth to the world whilst tearing down the boundaries that are put in front of us.
  3. What has been your proudest moment in your journey so far?

The only things worthy of boasting in are the things that God has done in us. We are proud of the discipleship, accountability and fellowship of being in the band because this has strengthened our relationship with God and brought us closer to Him. Arenas, stadiums, other artists etc are all totally material compared to our walk with God.
  4. What’s the most challenging that’s happened to the band?

We’re in a pretty challenging season right now. We’re ironing everything out and setting the table to make the leap of faith as full time, independent musicians. It’s immensely exciting and we are seeking wisdom in doing this the right way so that God can honour and bless it.
  5. As a group, If you had the chance to work with any one person, who would it be?

We’d all give different answers but would love to sit down with someone like John Foreman and grill him on his walk in the secular and non secular music industry. We’re inspired by Christians who live outside the box that religion puts up, so John Foreman, John Mark McMillan and Bear Rinehart would be pretty high on our list.
  6. Your favourite Bible personalities and why.

We love the underdogs. God uses poorly equipped people to do immense things… we are not the most talented band but we are honoured that He would use us in this journey. We are messy people but by the grace of God we are made kings, so, we’d have to look at someone like David or Paul because they were men that screwed up and seemed like super unlikely candidates for the jobs God gave them.
  7. Stay in Cardiff or relocate to London?

HA! No way would we relocate to London… The rugby sucks, the beer is bad and Wales is the home of revival! Seriously though, we love being Welsh and living in Wales. The Kings of Leon have stayed grounded because they have stayed small town guys and I think that’s really important. We know what it is to work for gigs and travel to shows, I think this humility sets us in good stead for the future and we wouldn’t want to move somewhere for convenience of the industry. We only move when God says move and we only do what He says to do, nothing more and nothing less. So unless there’s a big arrow from God pointing at London, we will pass on the city life.
  8. You’re performing there but which acts are you most looking forward to at Big Church Day Out?

Super excited to see John Mark McMillan, he’s a man that knows what it is to live a life of worship!
