Hip Hop and Spoken Word artist Joshua Luke Smith starts the new year with a powerful mantra for us all for 2020 in new single, ‘Taking My Time‘ featuring Jacques Miché. He’s starting the new year how he means to carry on: owning his path, his timing and his journey and encouraging others to do the same.
‘Taking My Time‘ is for those who feel they are too late, too broke, unseen and misplaced. It’s a song that celebrates all the things we feel get in the way, hold us back and count us out. Smith suggests that ironically, it’s these things that end up becoming the very parts of our story that make it so interesting, beautiful and unique.
He explains: “I had to drop this one at the beginning of the year because it’s a declaration that things don’t have to be the way they were and going the long way, isn’t going the wrong way.” The powerful lyrics we have come to expect from Joshua reaffirm this idea; “I am not defined by what they think of me, my story is unfolding and this chapter’s titled victory“.
It’s a powerful mindset for anyone to start the year with, not dismissing the past but moving forward positively and powerfully in spite of whatever has gone before and not because of it.
