Zoe Films’ “I Want Out” won the award of Best Drama – International and “Child of the Occult” won the award of Best Film – Nollywood Film Diaspora. Producer Isaac Odeniran of Zoe Films was in Toronto Canada last year to pick up the awards. “I Want Out” had been screened at the 2022 Kingdomwood International Film Festival in Atlanta and won the Festival award for Best Drama.
Attending the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival were filmmakers and guests from around the globe including from Europe (Spain, United Kingdom), United States of America, China, other parts of Asia, Africa (Nigeria) and Canada. Ayodeji Richard Makun (30 Days in Atlanta, A Trip to Jamaica, 10 Days in Sun City) the Legendary Nollywood Actor, Film Producer and Director was also present to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Patrick Brown the Mayor of the City of Brampton in Canada was present at the Awards Ceremony and presented awards to recipients. Nigerian French Canadian Actress and Singer Michelle Oluwatomi Akanbi (aka Tome) was also present and performed and received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to Performing Arts in Canada. Patricia Bebia Mawa and her husband Moses A Mawa, Founders of AfroGlobal Television and Silvertrust Media the largest Black owned media organisation in Canada were present to receive Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contribution to Black Media in Canada.
“I Want Out” and “Child of the Occult” have been screened in several festivals around the world with “I Want Out” screening in at least fourteen festivals and Child of the Occult screening in at least eight festivals. “I Want Out” has won awards for Best Drama, Best International Drama, Best Actressand Best Film whilst “Child of the Occult” has won awards for Best Film, Best Actor, Best International film and Best Nollywood Diaspora Film.
