Rapid-rising gospel artist Shack Santima releases brand new single ‘Surround Me’ featuring Luke November, BGR and Nashe — released recently as part of MOBO UnSung’s Class Of 2023.
Drawing inspirations from his Urban Gospel roots, multi-faceted Shack Santima delivers an atmospheric single, pushing against the narrative of vulnerability being a weakness, and instead seeing it as a strength. Delivering raw, anecdotal tales via his low tone and seemingly ambivalent cadence Santima upholds a nuanced maturity and seamless flow throughout atop sleek instrumental samples consisting of languid piano keys and catchy kick drums. Joined by fellow rising artists Luke November, BGR and Nashe, “Surround Me” is a psalm, and demonstrates Santima’s innate ability in crafting poignant, thought-provoking music.
Speaking on the new track, Santima states: “Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.”
Born in Congo and raised in Wales, Santima has spent the last couple of years forging his reputation as a rising standout lyricist, officially releasing his first single ‘Insomnia’ last year, having started making music in 2014. Since, Santima has dropped a slew of powerful singles including ‘Not In Vain’, ‘Husband Material’, ‘Salutations’ and his most popular record to date, ‘Of Course’.
Drawing inspiration from his love for Christ, working with youth within his community and personal experiences with friends and family, Santima’s open music palette promises a diversity and musicality beyond his years. With plenty more to come in 2024, all points towards the rise of a genuinely exciting new name.
