Since recording his soon to be released single, ‘Praise The Lord‘, Sam Opeche has progressively realised how this song resonates with key messages in the Psalms of David. In one of such Psalms, David alludes to praising God with everything that is within him because of God’s mercy, loving-kindness and healing. This is a fitting message of encouragement and hope in these times of uncertainties, and as Sam’s lyrics say, God’s loving-kindness and His tender mercy will never leave those who will trust in Him even in the face of adversities and challenges.
Sam remembers how God’s tender mercy came through for him many years ago when he lived a reckless and sinful life. As a young man growing up in abject poverty, Sam would perform at gigs across Lagos to make ends meet. But his lifestyle at this time was at odds with his Christian upbringing and Sam was in constant battles with his father who did not approve of his lifestyle. Then one night, on the eve of a New Year, when Sam was on his way to perform at a nightclub which was to be his biggest gig at that time, God’s tender mercy arrested him on the way. Such was the encounter that he didn’t make it to the nightclub but instead found himself in the church where he committed his life to Christ and has since then sung His praises.
Evidently, God’s loving-kindness and His tender mercy have continued to be echoed in Sam’s life and it is this experience that gives him a huge sense of satisfaction in sharing this song with the world.
