Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) joins industry heads at MaMC2017

With rights and licensing a concern for anyone involved in the creative arts, we are delighted to welcome the Phonographic Performance Limited commonly known as PPL, to the Music & Music Conference on 23rd September. We will be joined by PPL Performance Development Specialist, Leo O’Brien.

Founded in 1934, PPL is the UK music industry’s collective management organisation (CMO) for tens of thousands of performers and record companies. We license recorded music in the UK when it is played in public (shops, bars, nightclubs, offices etc.) or broadcast (BBC, commercial radio, commercial TV etc.) and ensure that revenue flows back to our members. These include both independent and major record companies, together with performers ranging from emerging grassroots artists through to established session musicians and influential festival headliners.

PPL has a market-leading international collections business, with 84 agreements in place across 40 countries, helping members to maximise their revenue when their repertoire is played overseas. We collected £212.1 million in the UK and internationally in 2015 and paid over 92,000 performers and record companies.

Leo O’Brien has been with PPL for the past 5 years and is part of PPL’s Performer Development team. Leo works with emerging artists/bands/labels to ensure they are registered and their rights are being managed correctly thus maximising their neighboring rights income. Outside PPL Leo co-owns indie label Say Something Records and has experience of working as an A&R Scout prior to his time at PPL.

Joining Leo at the Music & Media Conference 2017 will be Sam Hailes, Paulette Long OBE, Nicky Brown, Lauren Evans, Sandra Godley, Anthony David King and a variety of Music Executives and Creatives who will be delivering Presentations, Panel Discussions and Q&A Sessions; educating delegates on the current state and future of the Music and Media Industries and more.
