Sonia, a woman in her early 30s with a successful career, always dreamed of getting married and starting a family. But, as she grew older, she noticed that her desire for a romantic relationship was not being fulfilled.
She watched as her friends and peers got married, one by one. Sonia was happy for them, but at the same time, she couldn’t help feeling left behind. She started to wonder why she was still single when everyone else around her seemed to have found their soulmates.
As she turned to her church community for support, Sonia found that many of the messages she was hearing reinforced the idea that marriage and family were the ultimate goals of a Christian’s life. Sermons focused on biblical stories of marriage and family, and social events were often geared towards couples.
