Lurine Cato MBE last night picked up Best Gospel Act at the 2022 Urban Music Awards, making Valentine’s Day an even more special occasion for her. The UMA’s which celebrated its 18th anniversary on the 14th of February in London is said to be the ‘biggest celebration of Hip-hop, R&B, Soul, Reggae, EDM, Gospel, Afrobeat, and EDM music in the world’. Since its launch, the award show now has annual versions in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
British grime legend, Ghetts whose album “Conflict of Interest” broke all records last year secured two wins Artist of the Year UK and Best Album. Kanye West secured a nomination for Most Creative Artist despite his forthcoming album “Donda” not being released at the time. Ye was nominated for breaking the Apple Music Livestream record and the creative marketing/pr campaign which has garnered a lot of success in the lead-up to his album release. The win however went to Soulja Boy.
The focus of the night for us, was on the Best Gospel Act category which had nominees: The Kingdom Choir, Diana Hamilton, Jahmene, The Spirituals Choir, Called Out Music, Philippa Hanna, Lurine Cato and Carla Jane.
