Kirk Franklin is back with new music, and this time he has linked up with GloRilla once again for his new single ‘This Time’.
Ahead of his forthcoming album I Am What I Am, arriving on 30 October, Kirk is giving us another taste of what to expect from the project, and this one comes with a familiar collaborator.
‘This Time’ reunites him with GloRilla following their first collaboration on ‘Rain Down on Me’ with Maverick City Music, released in 2024 as part of GloRilla’s GLORIOUS album.
That first collaboration went on to win the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award at the 2025 BET Awards, with GloRilla, Kirk Franklin and Maverick City Music taking home the award.
Now they are back together, but this time on Kirk Franklin’s own record.
Kirk gave listeners an early taste of ‘This Time’ during his recent appearance with Fat Joe and Jadakiss on Joe and Jada, playing the song ahead of its official release.
The song also carries a familiar hip-hop sound, sampling Shawty Lo’s ‘Dey Know’. For Kirk, bringing Gospel and hip-hop together is nothing new. He has done it at different points throughout his career, working with artists outside the traditional Gospel space while still making music rooted in his faith.
What makes this one interesting is seeing Kirk and GloRilla come together again after the success of their first collaboration. ‘Rain Down on Me’ went on to become an award-winning Gospel record, and now we get to hear what the two have created the second time around.
