‘Jesus Loves Me (He Is Strong)’ is a new study on the classic children’s hymn. It introduces a helpful new focus on the lyric ‘He is strong’. This moving version uses hints of lament & childhood memory, before finally introducing a powerful, defiant epilogue. Musically it paints a picture with striking, rich discords and by building tension between cello, open tuned guitar & comforting maternal harmonies. Like many recent songs ‘Jesus Loves me (He is Strong)’ was written in response to the uncertainty felt during the isolation of winter lockdowns, and the recent outbreak of war in Europe. It’s being used to raise funds for the PCI Ukrainian Refugee Appeal. The lyric video is dedicated especially to the children of Ukraine, and to everyone who has struggled in the last few years.
