Introducing… George Cowie – our newest Glasgow based volunteer!

In just over 3 years but what seems like more than a decade ago, aStepFWD stepped unto the UK Christian scene with a fresh vision for sharing the amazing work of many individuals, groups and organisations across the country via multimedia and any new technology we could get our hands on.

The organisation has, since its inception been staffed by volunteers who share a common belief that our gifts and abilities are not just for ourselves but given to us so we may also bless others. Time has been spent engaging, supporting and now empowering individuals in music & ministry, in business and life skills.

With numerous accolades and much respect for our innovative, inclusive and creative thinking aStepFWD has become a beacon of light pointing to brighter days filled with hope, unity and prosperity.

We caught up with Glasgow born and bred George Cowie, our most recent volunteer and asked him to share some quick thoughts with us. This is what he had to say:

What can you tell us about yourself?

I come from a little village church that sits right in the heart of Scotland called Harthill Community Church. There are only three members in their 20s (myself included) and the rest are 50 plus. I had never fully experienced the Christian music scene, and in my naiveté often complained about it not existing. I went to University to study music and whilst there, I formed a secular band called All She Knows with a few class mates. We worked hard, released an album and toured around the UK for 5 years, getting to do some incredible things like playing in the O2 arena and appearing on The Gadget Show. Through all of it we were being supported by this little church in Harthill that no one had ever heard of. I think what we accomplished was a real testimony of their prayers for us as they never let a week go by without praying or helping us in some way. It was through All She Knows that I met Dennis from aStepFWD.

Why is this organisation important to you?

When I found out about aStepFWD I was shocked at how huge the UK scene really is and how easy aStepFWD makes it to connect with others. I’d say this is why aStepFWD is so important to me as it is building a bridge and connecting Christian musicians around the UK into one body of Christ.

What drives you as a person?

Music and evangelising are two of the driving factors in my life. It’s a real God movement that I have been able to join the team at aStepFWD as it has combined these two elements together. As I’m just back from my first mission trip, I’d have to add travelling to that list. Experiencing new culture and being able to help others has really taken me away from the young boy I used to be sitting in a small village church complaining. God is Amazing!

George joins us as a Music Researcher and has already written many reviews under his GeoCowie tag. Why not join George and the other fantastic volunteers as they share their talents beyond the four walls…
