Step FWD is proud to introduce Daniel Rhim with the first single ‘All Things New’ off his soon to be released album and also an entry in the March listing of the Step FWD UK Top 10 Christian Chart.
Daniel is a Canadian contemporary Christian music (CCM) artist, worship leader and songwriter from Toronto, Canada. Born and raised in Southern Ontario, he grew up listening to hymns and choir music due to the influence of his mom working as a church choir director at the local church they attended. He says his memories of listening to choir music on his way to church wasn’t just music to him but they were moments of worship as the family sang together. As a result, his love for church music began to grow at an early age, slowly shaping his course to becoming a worship leader.
It was during his high school years his love for church music became even more prominent when he started getting involved in a high school choir. His then music teacher at school, Karen Burke, an award-winning director and co-founder of Toronto Mass Choir, quickly realized his gift in music and asked Daniel to play piano for her high school choir. He agreed to play. He went on tours with the choir and it was one particular night Burke asked him to play a few worship songs before the night began. Through what may have been an ill-prepared worship for a first-timer, he was very encouraged by the audience support, to pursue worship.
In 2004, he began leading worship at a church plant while attending University of Waterloo. It was also during this time he took a significant role in a campus-wide student movement called Lift, leading hundreds of students to worship and encounter Jesus. After he left the church plant, he made Koinonia Christian Fellowship his home for the subsequent years, where he led worship mainly for the young-adults ministry called Twenty20 – one of the most vibrant ministries in the region with radical teachings and creative music. He says the church is still a big part of him.
In 2009, he released his first EP, ‘Hear The Sound’ which allowed him to travel to various concerts and conferences in the US and Canada. In 2011, he released a free downloadable single for a missions conference held in New York, where nearly 3000 students downloaded online. Then in the summer of 2013, he moved to Leicester, UK after recording the upcoming album in Nashville, TN. His first single from the album, “All Things New” was released on Feb. 4th, 2014, with his album scheduled to be released in June of this year.
Daniel Rhim is considered one of the emerging voices in worship music, with energy and passion to direct people to God. His heart lies in lifting up Jesus, as he points to John 12:32 in scripture – “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself.” This remains the vision for his music.
