INTERVIEW: Singer-songwriter and worship leader Seme talks new single

Brand new ‘Love Letter’ single from singer, songwriter and worship leader Seme continues to gather momentum following its recent official release. We had a quick catch-up with to ask him about the new the Victor Ukor produced track and more:

Following on from previous releases what made you venture into Afrobeat with this release

Obviously being Nigerian I’ve always had a strong love for Afrobeat music. Growing up, my dad listens to all genres of music and this helped my understanding and love for different forms of expression in music. While I’ve always wanted to do a song in the Afrobeat genre, ‘Love Letter’ and this genre seemed to be like a match made in heaven. I guess you could say it all came together  “naturally”.

When did you first receive and accept your ‘Love Letter’? Tell us a little about your conversion.

I got born again at the age of 10 in children’s Sunday School following a praise session. To be honest, I got to introduce the concept of Salvation really early, but the memory of accepting Jesus as my Lord probably comes from that praise session. It kind of explains why a lot of what I do in gospel music is geared towards worshipping God. I’ll bring in people in close contact with His love the way I felt it on that day and feel it still today.

Is it hard to combine being a doctor (especially in these times) and a worship musician?

I wouldn’t say hard, although it definitely has its challenges. That said, I realise everyone has their challenges in obeying the call of God on their lives therefore no one should feel limited by excuses. I take my work as a doctor very seriously and I genuinely enjoy carrying out my medical duties. I also recognise however that’s this world is temporal and it would be foolish to fully invest all my time energy and resources in a world that will soon pass away.

What are your plans in regards to music for the next couple of years?

Presently I am working on a  project to bring together some of my previous songs and some of my forthcoming songs. I also have a couple of videos that will be released in a few weeks. I also enjoy doing covers of songs that I love and all these will be accessible on my YouTube account. In a few years I plan to have put out a couple of durable and quality projects that God, myself and my fans of course will be proud of.

What is your message of hope to a generation facing so much uncertainty?

Our ultimate hope rests in the temporality of life and the eternity we will spend with our God. No situation lasts forever, so don’t lose hope.
