Former Southville worship leader Tim Williams to release debut solo project

Songwriter and worship leader Tim Williams, a member of the Elim Sound national team, will be releasing his debut solo project in 2020. The first single, titled ‘The Earth’, was released on 24th January. Williams’ new music follows his highly acclaimed and successful stint with the Somerset-based worship band SOUTHVILLE, which saw the group make history spending two months at Number 1 of the UK Christian Chart in 2017.

“The Earth is a song that talks about how worshipping God is so innately built into our DNA, and into everything that exists on the earth,” shares Tim Williams about the upcoming release. “I’ve always loved the notion that every single molecule on the earth is designed to worship the King of Kings. It’s written into the fabric of the earth. Nature, animals, humankind, everything has a natural, worshipful, response to our maker.”

These new songs see a return of the SOUTHVILLE producers, K Collective -Jonathan Owusu-Yianomah and Enoch John. The duo, bringing their pop style to Williams’ music, give a nice touch that sets the new tracks out from the crowd.

“There was an amount of nervousness for me, writing my first songs since leaving SOUTHVILLE, but I found such freedom in getting to explore some different styles that are more suited to a solo artist,” explains Williams. “It’s given a lot more space for experimentation with lyric and melody. My goal is, and always has been, to write songs that the church can sing and utilise in gatherings, however, branching out from the traditional congregational melodies and structures has given space for some really interesting songs to blossom. I’m excited!”

Tim hosted a Single Release Party at his home church, Life Church Chelmsford, last Thursday to celebrate the release of this first single. It was an evening of stories and songs as Tim shared the stories behind a number of songs he has written over the years. The evening also had a sneak peek of the second single of the year, not due for release until March.
