It is no longer new that Christians in Nigeria continue to face severe persecution, particularly in the northern region of the country. Reports by Open Doors have revealed a sobering reality that the global Church can no longer afford to overlook. According to their findings, 69 percent of Christian killings worldwide occurred in Nigeria. This alarming statistic highlights the scale and intensity of persecution faced by believers in the region and has sparked widespread concern across the global Christian community.
In response, gospel artists and worship leaders from different parts of the world have responded through sound. One such response comes from Solomon Lange, one of the most prominent gospel voices from Northern Nigeria, who recently released a song titled ‘Haskaka.’
‘Haskaka‘ which means light, is an Afro gospel sound that admonishes believers to continue shining the light of the gospel everywhere in the world, even in the face of persecution and hostility. The song was recorded to celebrate and honour unsung and highly persecuted pastors and ministers of the gospel, particularly those serving in the northern part of Nigeria.
The official music video opens with a prayer session inside a bus, symbolising intercession for the unrest across the world and the suffering of believers. This opening sets the spiritual tone of the song, emphasising prayer as the first response to persecution rather than fear or silence.
As the video progresses, the atmosphere shifts into joyful expression and dance, reinforcing a powerful message. Despite violence, instability, and opposition, believers remain resolute in spreading the gospel. The visuals echo the words of Scripture that believers are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
Lyrically, the song carries a bold declaration of faith and confidence in Christ, captured in the line, “We will never be afraid, Jesus won the victory.” Set in an Afrobeat sound, Haskaka balances celebration with conviction, reminding listeners that the victory of Christ remains certain even in the face of persecution.
Through this release, Solomon Lange joins a growing number of gospel artists using their music as both worship and a voice of solidarity with the persecuted Church.
‘Haskaka’ stands as a reminder that while persecution continues, the light of the gospel cannot be silenced.
