John Fleming’s low register and subtle vibrato are perfect compliments to this lead track on his new EP (October 2017) Fix Our Eyes. The melody is made up of a simple chord progression and arrangement that vaguely reminds me of a Christmas jingle (which is timely, considering the season change) played effortlessly by himself on the piano.
It’s a song to re-energise Christians in their solitary Walk. The line “when we can’t walk anymore” was cleverly sung as the actors onscreen stood still, in dull black and white, as if waiting for their divine support. As the middle 8’s melody changed, it brought new vigour to the song. Everyone’s faces in the video lit up with enthusiasm and optimism, as they found the energy to walk forward – symbolic.
Coming across this track has definitely registered my interest in Fleming and making me wonder why I hadn’t heard of him before!
