The ‘Good Life’ is definitely a feel-good song for the summer and is guaranteed to have you swaying or bopping your head, either to the rhythm or in agreement with the lyrics. ‘Good Life’ is the third release from Olaedo Ibe’s upcoming LP “Grow to Glow” which is due to be released on the 1st August 2018 and will also feature her songs ‘Fill Us’ and ‘Lead Me’. Sticking to her up-tempo style, Olaedo is joined by her friends Lekè and Becca Folkes, as they sing about the good life that they have now found. You can’t help but sing along and smile to the lyrics “I no longer have stress, just joy and happiness,” because whether it is how are you feeling at that moment or not, Olaedo’s tone makes you realise how much of a positive and necessary affirmation it is to speak over your life. The joy that they all have is evident when you see their smiles in the video. Although the title might have you thinking that this is a song about living lavishly and being wealthy, this is a victory song. When you strip away the brilliant beat and wholesome harmonies, you are left with a song of thanksgiving. They are thanking God for the peace, joy, love, victory and most importantly, the life that they have because of Him. Staying true to who she is, Olaedo fuses her culture and language into this song and this is both beautiful and powerful as her Igbo praises are a part of the verse and not just ad libs. If this song is an indication of what is to come on “Grow to Glow”, I cannot wait to hear the rest. I feel as though this is only the beginning for Olaedo and she is sure to achieve some amazing things and touch many people this year.
