Taking place on Saturday, 22nd March 2025, in London, the UGCY final will see ten outstanding choirs raise their voices in harmony, vying for the coveted title.
Founded in 2011 by Lorraine Wright MBE and inspired by the beloved gospel-infused film Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, UGCY has become a beacon of musical excellence within the UK’s university community. This unique competition provides an opportunity for students to showcase their faith and artistry before esteemed gospel music judges and an enthusiastic, interactive audience.

So, let’s take a look at the finalists:
After an intense selection process, these ten phenomenal choirs have earned their place in the UGCY 2025 finals. Each brings a unique sound, spirit, and style to the competition, promising a night of divine musical brilliance:
First, we have our reigning champions BIMM Birmingham Gospel Choir, who will be defending their crown at this year’s competition, bringing their signature energy and vocal excellence.
But they’re not the only 2024 finalists returning to fight for the top spot:
Keele University Gospel Choir (KUGC), known for their dynamic stage presence and emotional connection that won them 2nd place last year, are a force to be reckoned with.
Celebrated for their soulful voices and impactful creativity, UGCY 2023 winners Kent Gospel Choir (KGC) are ready to shine on the UGCY stage.
University of Birmingham Gospel Choir (UoB), who won UGCY in 2019, are a powerhouse of talent, their performances are a perfect blend of passion and precision.
The small but mighty Kings College Gospel Choir will return to the competition with their harmonious vocals and creative expression.
Warwick Gospel Choir, one of the most vibrant gospel choirs, will surely electrify the finals with their unique approach to gospel music.
Canterbury Christ Church Gospel Choir, who last competed in the 2023 finals, are celebrated for their artistic authenticity and connection to the audience.
Portsmouth Gospel Choir, who last competed in the UGCY Fest 2022, have also made their way into this year’s finals. With captivating performances and innovative arrangements, this choir has won the hearts of audiences and judges alike.
The ‘golden save’ winners to get through to the UGCY 2025 final were The Revival Gospel Choir (Leicester), who were last in the UGCY finals back in 2017!
Then completing the line-up we have UGCY newbies BIMM London Gospel Choir. Making their mark with fresh energy and innovative performances, they’re ready to inspire.
Who will claim the crown this year? Only time will tell. One thing is certain – every voice raised will glorify God in a magnificent symphony of praise.
