One of the most talented and versatile rappers, singers and producers of our time Christon Gray lands in the UK thanks to the same team that brought you 2016 Grammy nominee Jonathan McReynolds last year. 2017 kicks off in fine style, as Christon’s London show is set for Saturday, January 28th.
Musically gifted to write, sing, rap, produce and design, there are no limitations on his ability to reach every demographic. This is an artist truly ahead of his time.
His sound is a premium blend of classical, jazz, gospel, soul, pop and rap in a sophisticated manner and with a mainstream appeal. His inspirations range from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald, Bill Withers, Earth Wind and Fire, to Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Winans, Lauryn Hill, The Roots and Alicia Keys.
In 2006, he entered the Christian Rap genre writing, rapping, singing and producing for with the Christian rap group, Elevationists. While working on their first album, a large demand for their music became very apparent in the midwest region. The “Necessary” LP was released in May 2007. His debut solo album, entitled, “Even With Evil With Me”, released July 2011 and is available on iTunes.
Christon is a featured artist on Swoope’s critically acclaimed album “Wake Up” and also on the widely received Lecrae mix tape “Church Clothes”. Christon was part of the collective WLAK (We Live As Kings) with the self titled album WLAK (We Live As Kings) which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Hip Hop / Rap chart, #3 overall album iTunes Chart and multiple placements on Billboard including #1 spot.
Before signing with Kirk Franklin’s Fo Yo Soul Recordings/RCA last June, Christon developed a strong following that heard him rap with The Elevationists for eight years and create music for fellow Christian rapper Lecrae’s Reach Records. Christon’s “The Glory Album” was released on March 11, 2016 and went on to claim the #5 position on the Billboard R&B charts, while also hitting #6 on the Christian chart.
Christon grew up in a Christian family with his father leading a choir for years. His mother toured in a choir, the Golden Gospel Singers. Christon’s roots are so deep in the genre, he referred to his home as a “gospel household” and currently serves as a church worship leader. While faith is an important theme in both “The Glory Album” and his career, the musician proves that you don’t need an over the top testimony to feel the power of Jesus Christ.
Nominated as Best Artists of 2016 by Rapzilla.com, Christon Gray performs Live in London for the first time on Friday the 28th of January with support from MOBO, Dove & Stellar Awards nominee JayEss and emerging talent Kat Deal.
Organisers Zion Promotion, who also brought over Grammy nominee Jonathan McReynolds to a capacity crowd earlier in 2016, promise another unforgettable night.
