Having amassed over 5 million streams in just one year, sxxnt. has truly established himself as one of the
most exciting producers in the scene reworking well-known worship songs into alternative pop hits. Last
summer he and Praise Lubangu came together to deliver their chill, lofi hiphop cover of Bethel Music’s
‘Raise A Hallelujah’ and the creative duo are back this time with their remix of Hillsong’s ‘What A Beautiful
Name’.
Brooke Ligertwood’s worship anthem now sounds almost unrecognisable as we hear wavy synths,
pitch-shifted voices and deep 808s all heavily layered with Praise Lubangu’s stunning vocals.
As sxxnt. explains – “When I rework a song it’s really important for me to feel like I can do something
unique with it. ‘What A Beautiful Name’ is an incredible song and there are so many versions of it already
so I want to reshape it in a way that makes listeners feel as if they’re hearing it for the first time and I find
that works best when I move it into a completely new context. There are many churches and worship
artists that do congregational music so well so I want to hear these songs redefined for other spaces,
whether that’s the car, the radio, the gym or anywhere else. How can I bring Christ out of the church,
beyond the pews and into speakers and playlists that Christian music doesn’t usually find without
compromising our worship? And then I hope it helps those who struggle to connect to mainstream
worship music by making them feel part of this big, beautiful family of God’s, even if it sounds a little
different and potentially even uncomfortable for people inside the Church already.”
