South African band Secondary Citizens release their latest single ‘Consume’

Secondary Citizens (or SCBand for short), is a four-piece Contemporary Christian rock band hailing from the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa. Founded in 2016, the band has taken quite a detour in getting just the right sound and the right people to turn it into what it is today.

Their latest track, ‘Consume‘, is birthed from 1 Kings 18, it’s the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. Verse 2 of that chapter starts with “there was a famine in the land”. Fitting, as many of us are facing a similar season due to the Global Covid-19 Pandemic. There is famine all-around – businesses are shutting down, companies are retrenching, people have lost loved ones. A spirit of fear has been unleashed and it wants to cripple our faith.

As believers, we need to understand that nothing comes our way that has not first filtered through the Grace of God. God often allows hardships to redirect, reset and reroute us; but in order for us to realign and walk in the will of God, we need to die to self“, Secondary Citizens commented.

In times of drought or famine, we have to be prepared to do the crazy, like wasting water to pour over wood that you are about to burn – in the natural, it does not make sense. God is calling us to do something that costs us when our resources are limited, in spite of our own “personal famines”. God wants to reveal himself through the seemingly impossible because in so doing, no man, no flesh, none of our own intellect or ability can take credit and no one can deny the power and presence of God“.
