Submitted recently to the UK Christian Chart ‘Beautiful’ is the new single from Charity Bygrave – a gospel artist based in UK. She was born in Lusaka, Zambia and was brought up in a Catholic home and practiced Catholicism. Her grandmother used to take her to mass every Sunday.
Early in her life she moved to Botswana where she studied before moving back to Zambia for two years to attend a boarding school in Mumbwa. It was in there that she got to know about Jesus as her Savior Charity got saved while at a Scripture Union event and since then she has been following the Lord even in lifes ups and downs. After getting saved she went to a Pentecostal Church and as she walked in, remembers “…there was a girl singing and when I heard her sing I said, ‘one day I want to sing for the Lord like her’.” And since then she just wanted to sing gospel music as she feels it is uplifting and all going to Jesus, not to the person singing it.
It was not long after that Charity had to relocate to England. She moved to Essex where she enrolled in year 9 and was there till year 11. When she finished her GCSEs she moved from Essex to Manchester. She started a college degree at City College Manchester then went on to study a music course with a college that was run by Rockschool. She did a vocal arts course and then moved on to vocal teaching. When she finished the course she started putting on youth events around Manchester and going to sing in different churches in the hope of bringing people to the Lord through music ministry.
While singing in a band called Zenith Gospel, she pursued her love for journalism and studied International Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston. This course was associated with the BBC in Blackburn so she had a chance to go into the newsroom and learn from some of the best journalists in England.
When she finished university she worked for a few radio stations and TV station. She have continued to be in love with media and production ever since but also her love for music had not stopped.
In 2018 she made up her mind to work more on her music just to inspire and encourage others because of different issues that people might be going through. She had an opportunity to record a song with Ephraim Son of Africa. They recorded a single called ‘Beautiful’ which she says “…is something so dear to her because with our world, beauty is classified something we can not attain.”
