University Gospel Choir of the Year is back, bigger & better!

One of the most fun and exciting events we had the pleasure to be involved in last year, was the University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY). There were some great choirs and awesome voices plus the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. See 2015 video highlights above filmed by our Step FWD Media team.

We can’t wait for this year’s event on the 5th of March at the El-Shaddai International Christian Centre, The Hippodrome.

University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) is a nationwide annual competition that aims to bring together talented individuals through music. Backed by the Mayor of London and the former Higher Education Minister- David Lammy, UGCY is a multi award winning voluntary organisation providing an unprecedented platform for University Gospel Choirs across the UK to develop and showcase their musical abilities.

Since its creation, UGCY has held five annual competitions, celebrating the talents of 1000+ individuals from various universities across the UK. With presence at over 40 universities, UGCY prides itself in being able to offer opportunities and create platforms for talented individuals who may not have had the opportunity otherwise.

Last year saw the best yet, with performances potentially worthy of winning any of the previous years. It was Leicester University Voices, who took the title with a showstopping performance and win for the very first time. They will be back to defend their title and once again face judges & seasoned Gospel Music gurus – Andrea Encinas, Mark De-Lisser, Ayo & Stephanie Oyerinde.

There are 7 finalists contending for the title of “University Gospel Choir of the Year 2016”:

University of Southampton (ACCF CHOIR SOUTHAMPTON)
Canterbury Christ Church University (CANTERBURY CHRIST CHURCH GOSPEL CHOIR)
Coventry University (COVENTRY GOSPEL RHYTHMS)
De Montfort University (DMU GOSPEL CHOIR)
De Montfort University (DMU STUDENT CHOIR)
Middlesex University (MDX GOSPEL CHOIR)

As always the competition will be full of dancing, laughter and roaring cheers (and a few tears!)
