THE CRYSTAL CITY. Is it real? Are your friends going where you’re going? Do they share the same vision or does the majority rule? Does Royalty look like you and me? A children’s book for adults too. We’re never too old to dream.
Toyin Adekale is an award-winning, established singer/songwriter, actress, motivational speaker and author, born in London to West African parents. Her passion for storytelling through music led to her first book of inspirational short stories, “I Do, Do You?” Toyin travelled the world sharing her music with dignitaries and royalty, motivating adults and children. This encouraged Toyin to extend inspirational stories to children in her first children’s book, “THE CRYSTAL CITY”.
When a little girl dreams of a City for Kings and Queens, who will go with her? If her friends believe in her dreams in the beginning, will they handle the tough road ahead? What’s lurking in the wilderness on her journey? Will she be left alone or worse still, will she give up on her dream? Tali’s vision keeps her on a journey to see something, she’s only ever seen in her dreams. It’s hard to believe in what you can’t see, and even harder for her to convince her friends, some of whom have the same dream. Will you go with her?
“My favourite stories as a child growing up were “Aesop’s Fables”. Fun stories with deeper meanings. As a mother, I discovered children are brave dreamers. They see a world full of adventures and mystery and they aren’t afraid to dream. Ask them what they want to do when they grow up, the possibilities are endless, from doctors to scientists, astronauts to being the next president. That was me” – shares Toyin. “I understood the messages, but there were no images reflecting me, no characters that I could relate to as a British born, woman of colour in a multicultural Afro-Caribbean community “The Crystal City’’ is a children’s book for adults too. We’re never too young for a story of inspiration with characters, we can relate to. My dream is to know that my grandchildren and your children and their friends, not only enjoy this story, but understand the message and how it applies to them and see themselves in the characters, and the world can see them too“.
