As we approach the StepFWD Awards this weekend, it seemed only right to take a moment to reflect upon why such an event is important, and why, as Christians, it is good to celebrate such things.
The StepFWD Awards, the UK’s definitive Christian and Gospel Music Awards, is based on the underlying principle found in Romans:
“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour.”
Romans 12:10
There is so much to unpack in this verse! Love one another, and outdo each other in showing honour.
Some may argue that as Christians we shouldn’t need earthly rewards, but the trophy is not the goal of these Awards. This verse is the heart of the StepFWD Awards, the desire to show honour to one another in love by acknowledging the incredible achievements and hard work of these artists. It is not just about rewarding the artists but about the opportunity to come together as a community and honour their work.
In Romans 12, Paul is providing the church in Rome with a practical guide for building a strong, unified, and loving community; one that reflects the teachings of Jesus and the love of God.
We see the same message in Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians:
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.“
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Here at AStepFWD, we strive to encourage each other and build each other up, strengthening new artists and giving people a platform for their music to shine. This is what we are already doing, and it is what we continue to do. This Saturday will be no different and we cannot wait to see and encourage the incredible talents that will be there – both those nominated for awards, and those just starting out in the industry. This is an exciting opportunity to come alongside one another and build each other up, just as Jesus called us to do.
Excited? Come join us!
