Last night, the 2018 Billboard Music Awards took place live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.The show was opened and hosted by Kelly Clarkson, who gave a call to action following the recent School Shooting in Santa Fe, Texas and then performed a stunning medley of songs by some of this year’s Nominated Artists – including Kendrick Lamar’s ‘HUMBLE.’, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’, Bruno Mars’ and Cardi B’s ‘Finesse’ and more.
Top winners of the night included Sheeran himself (who went away with 5 trophies, including Top Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist) and Drake (who picked up Top Billboard 200 Artist). Top New Artist went to Khalid, whilst Top Billboard 200 Album went to Kendrick for “DAMN.”, and Top 100 Song was awarded to Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber for ‘Despacito’.
In the Christian & Gospel fields, Tasha Cobbs-Leanord became the only multiple winner of the night, collecting trophies for ‘Top Gospel Artist’ and ‘Top Gospel Album’ (Heart. Passion. Pursuit.) – beating out Anthony Brown, Travis Greene and Marvin Sapp.
Top Gospel Song was swooped by JJ Hairston for ‘You Deserve It’, Top Christian Song went to Hillsong Worship for ‘What a Beautiful Name’, Top Christian Artist to MercyMe, and Top Christian Album to Alan Jackson for ‘Precious Memories Collection’. Sending out congrats to all winners and nominees of the night!
This year’s Icon Award recipient was none other than Janet Jackson, who performed a 15min medley of hits following a presentation of the prestigious award by Bruno Mars.
