The war in Syria is a horrible atrocity that has had a grave effect on the population of the country, leading to what many have dubbed a “lost generation”. As a Christian, the conflict in Syria raises an interesting philosophical issue. Supporting any one side against the other will lead to the detriment of the side left isolated and forever lost.
The Assad regime, currently fighting to stay in power against rebels is part of the minority Alawite community that have ties to the Christian community. A number of Christians fear that the fall of the regime will lead to the persecution of the Christian community.
Our fear of seeing Christians being persecuted should not stop us from finding a speedy solution for the conflict and looking for ways to support its end.
