Lofi and electronic producer sxxnt. began his project of reinterpreting worship songs into chill, lofi beats at the start of 2020, and now teams up with vocalist, Praise Lubangu for his first noninstrumental cover.
Having already reworked Bethel Music’s ‘Raise A Hallelujah‘ into this laidback track spruced up with some brass from Trumpet Pete, the song has now been taken further once again with the addition of Praise Lubangu’s smooth and soulful vocals.
“As music progresses and the way that we as followers of Jesus engage with worship outside of church also moves forward, I think it’s really important that we creatively expand the idea of what worship sounds like. Contemporary worship these days can often be a ‘one-size fits all’ situation, but God’s creativity is so much more diverse than that. It excites me to see how far I can push something that is so familiar for Christians into a musical space often very unfamiliar to Church; whilst at the same time taking Jesus into a musical community that He is rarely shown to. “
So far sxxnt. has reinterpreted a number of worship songs, including ‘What A Beautiful Name’ and ‘Holy Spirit’ and has more set for release including a rendition of ‘Way Maker’ coming later this month.
